I ran into the same problem a couple months ago and was told by Elecraft (Wayne 
& Gary) to use a virtual machine or a Windows box, so it sounds like there are 
no plans to support non-Windows OSes at the moment.

I ended up installing VirtualBox on my linux laptop and then installing XP into 
that.  Luckily, at work we have many cdroms of unused XP laying around (since 
our lab only uses Unix).  Networking, serial port, etc, all worked 'out of the 
box' without need for any tweaking.  Not an ideal solution but at least I don't 
need a second computer.  The nice thing, too, is that it's not emulation.  
You're running the real XP so you don't run into unexpected emulation issues.
