Actually, this is quite easy and inexpensive to do. I use one of the biggest 12V batteries that Costco sells (about $75) and float charge it with a little 10A switching power supply that I bought for $10 at a hamfest. I've adjusted the float voltage to 14V, and the battery lasts for at least 3 years.
