George,

Whether a Y adapter will work or not depends on your band decoder.  Most 
do not issue any commands on the RS-232 bus, they only listen and 
respond accordingly.  Check with the manufacturer of the decoder to know 
for certain - if the decoder connects only receivers to the RS-232 
lines, it will work fine.

With RS-232, many receivers on a signalling line are possible, but if 
more than one driver is present, things can get confused (the drivers 
will fight each other).
