Gentlemen:

I just completed KX-1 #1176. Everything checks out fine, life is good, I'm
thrilled.

I've also just finished a DL-1 dummy load kit. I was concerned that I might
be getting low power out on the KX-1, and it appears that the DL-1 has
confirmed my concerns.

According to the formula provided by Elecraft with the DL-1, I get the
following results:

V (DC) 7.87
Calculated P (watts) 2.54

(POWER((B2*1.414+0.15),2))/50

I'm using the formula (above) as written in an Excel spreadsheet. 7.87V is
the reading on the DMM when connected to the test points on the DL-1.
2.54W is the calculated power. I'm powering the KX-1 with an external 12V
battery -- DMM measures 12.85V out on the battery (and the battery charger
indicates the battery is slightly overcharged).

I finished the KX-1 about ten days ago, and I waited to post this note until
the DL-1 came today (and I popped it together). I have not gone back to the
manual to review the troubleshooting procedures, and I've not exhausted all
possibilities on my end. Yes, the potentiometer accessible from the bottom
of the KX-1 is cranked...but that's about it in terms of real checking.

Is 2.54W acceptable with 12.85V supply? Have I done something wrong? I'm a
relatively new HAM, and I'm a very, very, VERY new QRP guy...2.54W is making
me very nervous. I prefer 5!

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks!
