Hi Dave, I also had a problem with firmware loads. On the recommendation of one of the list members, I switched from the KUSB (yes, I have the new version) to a TrippLite Keyspan USB-Serial adapter, and my firmware load problem went away. Some consumer-grade USB-Serial adapter chips can be unreliable. In my work, I'm familiar with commercial-grade adapters like MOXA NPort, which are more reliable and more expensive. Of course, YMMV.
