A couple of weeks ago on an 80m EU dx net that I regularly participate in I recorded about 10 seconds of audio from a ZL who the net was working just to give him an idea of how well his nice clean signal was being received here in the UK. He was happy with the playback and a number of UK participants in the net said without being asked that they could hardly distinguish between the recording and the real thing. It's not the first time I've done that sort of thing with similar results. In my view there's not much that needs fixing with the DVR.
