Ed, A 2 V drop sounds excessive - the internal series protective diode in the positive 12 V supply line does reduce the voltage sensed by the K2's internal voltmeter, but not by more than 0.5V under normal conditions.
Are you reading the voltage on the K2 display in TX or RX mode?
