Hi Keith, You are definitely closer than me! I wasn't able to order mine until January 11 ... but I am hoping that the backlog did not grow as quickly between December 30 and January 11 as it did for the first few days of orders! I have been using my K3 on my portable 6m EME DXpeditions, but am looking forward to using the KX3, since excess baggage charges on my last trip just about cleaned me out! Every pound and cubic inch saved really makes a difference when you are hauling all your equipment halfway around the world!
Your quest for an effective high gain portable yagi for 6m is something for which many of us also yearn! It sure would sure be a boon to successful 6m DXpeditions if there were such an animal. The closet thing I have found are two antennas made by M2, the 6M5XHG and 6M8GJ. Both break down into a maximum length of 44", so they fit into a nylon bag that can be transported easily and complies with the dimensions of standard airline checked baggage. Here is a photo of the antenna erected at 5W0GJ last fall: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=232926826755368&set=a.232925890088795.54498.100001141574142&type=3&l=00a25144ad And below is a photo of the antenna AND the 21' portable mast ready to be put into the little nylon transportation bag. I have to say, using the 6M8GJ makes me feel a bit like a magician ;-) http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=232929230088461&set=a.232925890088795.54498.100001141574142&type=3&l=00a25144ad The don't just instantly pop out of a suitcase like a tent supported by aluminum tubing all held together by elastic cords...however, for transportation, they ARE compact! Additional information on how I mark my 6M8GJ for field assembly and raise it is here: http://www.bigskyspaces.com/w7gj/6M8GJassembly.htm GL and VY 73, Lance On 5/16/2012 1:59 PM, Keith Heimbold wrote: > I was so stoked to see that there was an order on the list that said his / > her order date was Dec 30th unknown time.
