Looking at the K3 block diagram in the introduction of Fred Cady's K3 Guide, 
the key difference in architecture here appears to be that the K3 is a dual 
conversion, whereas the KX3 is direct conversion. However, if you put a 
wide-band roofing filter (eg. KFL3B-FM 13kHz) between the first and second 
mixer, then perhaps it might be possible? Or are there some other 
considerations at play here?
