The XG3 cannot be tuned by 1 Hz steps, the resolution is a function of the operating frequency but generally it is within 24 Hz of the selected frequency. If your VFO application does not require this accuracy, the XG3 may be a good choice. However as Wayne outlined, proper filtering would be necessary.
