Jim:
There are other batteries but none that will last ten years and give you 3
volts. I understand you not wanting to pay the surcharge UPS wants for a
lithium battery transport but there is a simple solution. Buy the CR2032
battery holder from Digikey and have it shipped first class mail. Then head
into town, Anchorage if you must, and head for a drugstore for the CR2032.
Ten years from now when you replace it again you won't have to even heat up
the soldering iron.

Subject: [Elecraft] OT - Lithium memory batt

Hoping to take advantage of the knowledge base here. Does anyone know of a
battery suitable for memory backup (installed life = 5 years or
more) that uses a chemistry other than lithium? And hopefully comes in the
"coin cell" configuration? I need to order some CR2032 size, with solder
tabs or PC pins, but the vendors tell me that lithium cells cannot be sent
via the postal service, and I refuse to pay upwards of
$25 shipping via UPS or FedEx for a $2.00 battery.
