Hello Jay. Before I got a vertical dipole, I used a 20 meter bazooka up 16 feet. I worked all kinds of stations and a bunch of DX. I did this running 5 watts and up to 25 watts. I have a K2, K3, and a KX3. They are great radios. It goes without saying a better antenna is going to perform well, but at 16 feet, I am very pleased, and learning to appreciate QRP and CW.
