Good Evening,
The rain is falling steadily but at the rate of only an inch per
day. Much less than last weekend. Even though the West Coast is being
hit by a large storm most of it is south of me. I did have a frost last
week so all of the bracken fern have turned brown and are starting to
fall over. Now I can find the hidden wood I cut this summer.
We are just past the mushroom season. I don't think it was too good
this year because of the rapid transition from the dry season to the
rainy and cold season. The ones I have found are already
disintegrating. The haploid phase in the mosses is evident while I slog
wood uphill. The fungus on those chunks of wood knocked me out for a
while. My sinuses were so stuffed it was hard to breath. Antihistamines
seem to help but staying away from the bark works best.
Last week while bringing in wood after dark I spotted a pair of
glowing eyes with my flashlight. Then another pair popped up, and the
next, and the next, and the next. There were eight deer out there doing
whatever it is they do all looking at me. I told them I was only
getting wood and ignored them. No one ran off :)
Propagation has been moderate to poor this week. I hope it
improves by tomorrow.
Please join us tomorrow afternoon and evening.
