I have experienced this, but my lock-ups occur when tapping the SELECT button and using the knob on the P3 to QSY to a frequency on the SVGA display.
It's never stopped doing that, so now as a work-around, I tap the FINE button on the right of the main VFO knob with my social finger and use the VFO to make rapid changes on the SVGA screen.
