Same for my KPA-500. 
I haven't studied the sequence of how I shut it and the K3 down but have always 
assumed that sequence is involved. 
This is not unlike the earlier issue of bringing the K3 and KPA500 online "out 
of order" and seeing the amp fail to operate.
