I was a victim of the early regs as I moved a lot (K1DCK, WA6YCF,
WB2PVW). My present call, KE6US, was a routine sequential assignment
when I got the Advanced. I was thrilled with it, then a week later I got
another call assignment by mistake, KE6VD. I was less than thrilled. I
called the FCC district office, and they straightened it out, but I was
afraid they would make me keep VD.
When I made Extra, I kept the "Advanced" call. I STILL can't get used to
2x1 calls. I have finally gotten used to A calls and N calls.

I got my current call through the systematic sequential assignment process
33 years ago, after suffering 13 years with my original sequentially-assigned
call of WA5WGJ. I do not propose to ever change my current call, regardless
of my permanent location.
However, I believe there remains a very valid and useful application of the
traditional "/#" for any operation that is away from one's licensed location.
