Dave,

I haven't tried it as a diversity receiver (as such) but have used it on 6m on a separate antenna while my K3 is on another 6m antenna. Allow me to receive in a different direction without rotating the main antenna.

As far as use with good antennas the KX3 runs "very close" to my K3, and on transmit is equal. I have the K3/10 so both radios provide compatible input to my 275w HF PA or my 150w 6m PA (runs 125w with 8w input). On HF I run a triband yagi and 80/40m inverted-V; both radios work great with these.

Ask how 12w sounds on the Elecraft Net! Sorry, boasting :-)
good antennas are the key!

I have the KRX3 in my K3 so haven't thought to use the KX3 in a diversity mode, but see no reason it should not work (If you run QRO you might want to protect the KX3 Rx input during transmit).

I continue to be impressed with the kx3. Great reception on 40 and 80 tonight with 24 inches of antenna. Not quite as good with 48 inches as a loop between both antenna posts. Which shouldn't work at all. Has anyone paired a K3 with a proper antenna with a kx3 with a proper directional antenna as a poor man's "sort of but not quite diversity receiver". I know you can't lock the vfo's etc. Dave AB3PL.
