I figured it out.  I had to run these commands to install some i836 stuff ...

sudo apt-get install libgtk2.0-0:i386
sudo apt-get install libcanberra-gtk0:i386


It seems to work now.  Hopefully this info will be useful for those trying to
use Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on arch x86_64.
