I use Fldigi for almost everything digital. It's a very versatile program, ported to Windoze and Linux (maybe other OSs?). Fldigi and its suite (flrig, flarq, etc.) are free, and fairly well-maintained and -documented. Fldigi will also maintain a log for you, but I've not used this feature personally.
