Fred, Wouldn't it be easier to just buy something like one of MFJ's remote tuners that are built exactly for the job you want your KAT500 to do? If I had a KAT500, I don't think I'd want my $700 Elecraft auto tuner left outside, where it was never meant to be. (Even if it was in a sealed, water-proof container). (And yes, I use a MFJ remote ATU for my portable Vertical.)
