Jim, it's true audio quality is very subjective. For good communications quality, I personally judge the three headsets I mentioned to be about equal. Over the ear comfort also compares with my over the ear headphones - a sauna for the ears. :-)
Brian, Yes, the electret mics do require a small amount of power - Elecraft and others call it BIAS voltage.
