If one sets a DSP bandwidth greater than the wisest installed roofing filter the bandwidth will be determined strictly by the characteristics of the roofing filter and the lowpass filter (4.2 KHz) in the audio chain.

I understand that the DSP is after the roofing filters but I don't understand why one can dial in a bandwidth wider then the installed roofing filter. When I do so, am I hearing the skirts of the filter and the attenuated signals outside of the filter's passband as well?
