It's pretty easy to make a DB9 to 3.5mm serial cable. Wiring of the pins is in the manual for the Elecraft gear that uses it, so we can cut either a hi-fi cable that's laying around and solder it to a DB9, or cut a DB9 cable and solder it to a 3.5mm plug. I did the former. Works fine.
