One could make the same argument about CW: there are new modes that provide reliable communication well below the noise floor.

For that matter, HF is subject to propagation, and the internet is like a band that's always open -- and the data rates are higher.

Yet there is an "installed base" of "legacy operators" who love CW.

There is an installed base of devices that work wonderfully (atomic clocks) that will no longer keep accurate time unless they somehow hear JJY.
