David,

While you quote a 50-50 split with the estate, most individual hams will do that for a greater share to the survivors - giving all but the expenses incurred to the survivors.

Yes, it is a lot of work, but "hams helping hams" predominates, and as long as expenses are covered, many hams are willing to give their time and effort to the family of an SK for no profit.

I trust the ham who has volunteered to evaluate my ham gear at my demise will not want a 50-50 deal.

However, if there is no personal relationship between the SK's family and the person or group setting the value and selling the gear is a fair equation.

Really, it’s whatever the market will bear. If you follow eBay for certain
items you will get an idea of what they are going for there.

There are many sites you can just put a price on it with your description and
if no one buys at that price you are out nothing. I think QRZ will work that
way.

Or so you can just put a minimum price on it on eBay and if no one comes up to
that price it doesn’t sell. There are costs to doing this but it does work.

Also if you were keeping the items but want your relatives to have a better way
of selling them when the time comes there are many companies that auction off
ham radio equipment for a fee and they will buy the whole shack for one price
or piece out things that are of higher value. Just start looking around. I know
in some of the ham radio magazines there are estate sellers that advertise
regularly and have a good reputation. There is one in Electric Radio Magazine
that has been in business for many years. A query to them might even give you a
good idea of a value since that is what they do.

In our area our local radio club (cherryland amateur radio club ) will sell
items from an estate. We have a few gentlemen that do this and spend a lot of
time researching the value of each item, and packaging and shipping it to the
seller if necessary. We split it 50-50 with the heirs of the estate, usually
the widow.

The K1 and KX1 are tough ones as they are unobtanium now, you may be surprised
what they may bring.

I forgot what I paid for mine, but I wouldn't by shy asking 75% of the original
price for the rig and tuner. Now if you only had the paddle!

Hi, gang,

We are in the process of downsizing for a future (not scheduled). Can
anyone give me suggestions for prices on the below rigs if I decide to sell
them instead of moving them? I am the original owner and builder of all
three rigs. I am very careful in building but I have also had these rigs
checked by someone with a LOT more experience than me.

1) 2-band K1 with:

   Internal battery
   Internal antenna tuner
   stand.

2) 2-band KX1 with:

  unbuilt internal antenna tuner.

3) K2 with:

   SSB module
   Internal battery
   Unbuilt antenna tuner.

Thanks in advance.
