I have one in my KX1 and it's the best accessory. I operate all the time from an external 10-cell NiMH pack, and I haven't noticed any difference whatsoever.
You only see very brief flashes while tuning around. When you've got a signal zeroed in it's flashing with the signal, but if you figure conservatively that CW has a 50% duty cycle ( I think it's actually less than that) and the LED draws maybe 10ma, and you are transmitting 50% of the time in a QSO, it works out to not worth worrying about. On the other hand, the ability to zero beat the other guy.... priceless. 73, Mike N2HTT ----- Original Message ----- From: Scott Walker <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Sunday, June 18, 2006 1:07 pm Subject: [Elecraft] KX-1 and Zero-beat Tuning Indicator? > Just curious if anyone who has installed the K6XX SMD zero-beat > board in their KX-1 has noted or even noticed how much it reduces > the battery life?
