I have one in my KX1 and it's the best accessory.

I operate all the time from an external 10-cell NiMH pack, and I haven't 
noticed any difference whatsoever. 

You only see very brief flashes while tuning around. When you've got a signal 
zeroed in it's flashing with the signal, but if you figure conservatively that 
CW has a 50% duty cycle ( I think it's actually less than that) and the LED 
draws maybe 10ma, and you are transmitting 50% of the time in a QSO, it works 
out to not worth worrying about.

On the other hand, the ability to zero beat the other guy.... priceless.
