I started my journey by learning Morse Code in 1950 at the age of 12. I am going to be 82. I am on the air about every day. I am mostly CW. I have 370 DXCC and also have participated in Contests both from the USA and outside the USA. It was just a few years post WW II. Communism was sweeping Eastern Europe. As a teenager I was able to communicate with Communist countries. I received QSL cards from these places and still have them. I went on in life and became a professional businessman / executive/ officer in the Corporate world. I also earned a Law degree and am still an active lawyer at 81 years old. I enjoy revisiting my youth almost every time I get on the air. I have a friend who I met when we were both Novices in 1953 and we are good friends. There are others of my friends who are now SK. Now we are able to see on television these far away places that I communicated with in the 1950s. Kids do not have the perspective of being far away. Everything is here and now and now far away. There are many of my age group and statue that feel like I do. We enjoy nostalgia and Ham Radio is the means to do that. The people from the era that I got into radio and are still active feel the same way. I have not used voice transmissions in decades. CW is a subset and the folks at Elecraft do an outstanding job in providing the gear. I enjoyed building my K2 which is now 20 years old. I use it when I want to change from my K3. I also enjoy traveling with my KX3 or KX2. Their amps are fantastic too.
