This has been a problem on and off for at least five years. It is somewhat worse now than it has been recently, but it is more of the same.
I had to design out the uC on Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 (EE2) in 2018 the week before we were supposed to gerber out for our proto build. I found 1000 pieces of a suitable alternative *in stock* at Digikey that I immediately bought on my credit card that would carry us through proto and EVT, and our GSM simultaneously secured an allocation from the supplier for what we needed production. 73 de Ai6KG -- Christopher.
