My solution was to start with a brand new CM500 and use these ear pad covers from Amazon:

One pair goes on the headset and the other pair is used when the first pair is removed and washed.  I secure the top with needle and thread so it doesn't slip down.  That only takes seconds.  No more ear pad wear.   Jim W6YA
