Hi Harold, It's certainly true that cold solder joints can arise from dirty/corroded PCB solder lands. The Elecraft boards in my K2/10 (now 17 years old, built by me) are very good quality with plated-through holes and durable solder mask. I had occasion to open my K2 to install the SSB and noise blanker modules last week, and the boards look as new as they did 17 years ago. I had more trepidation about the rework and removal of some components than I ever did at the initial construction.
If you've not had much soldering practice recently, I suggest doing some practice soldering of wires and trimmed component leads to re-acquire your skill. It will come back...... 73, Mike, K8CN ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
