Too many hams believe that if the connector will plug in, it should
work. This is nothing farther from the truth. There are little to NO
standards with ham radio equipment.
You will need to check the pin-out circuits on the KX2 as published in
the manual. Then check the SSM-17A wiring. You will have to rewire
the connector on the SSM-17 to make it work.

Subject: [Elecraft] Yaesu SSM-17A mic with KX2?
Message-ID:<[email protected]>
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Hi folks,
I recently purchased a Yaesu
SSM-17A<https://www.amazon.com/Yaesu-Standard-Microphone-SSM-17A-Replaces/dp/B089YW2BP9>
speaker microphone hoping to use it with my KX2. I don't need the up/down buttons on
the Elecraft MH3, and it's less than half the price.
I'm surprised to find that the PTT button on the Yaesu speaker mic does not
seem to work with the KX2. I've tried every combination of the MIC BIAS and MIC
BTN options to no avail. I can get audio out from the mic using the front panel
XMIT button, but the PTT on the hand mic does not key the transceiver.
Does anyone have advice on debugging this? Or is it just fundamentally
incompatible? I'm surprised because the connector is exactly the same as the
Elecraft MH3.
Thanks in advance for any knowledge you might be able to share, and 73 de Mark
