Thank you all for the replies. I want to clarify the issue a little bit better.
Both radios were tested with their internal and MFJ Cleartone speakers. I have also tested them with a pair of Kenwood SP-230 speakers. They all show equal results. All tests were done with a single speaker, so no phasing issue here. One radio has the firmware 5.67, and the other has 5.2x. I suspect it is the firmware issue, but I will report back here after testing them again on both radios with 5.67.
