Calling it GROUND is simply WRONG. That's where the misconceptions come
in. Signal paths must be a TRANSMISSION LINE to function properly --
reject noise and crosstalk, and provide sufficient bandwidth for data.
Ideally twisted pair or coax. Not-twisted pairs will carry the signal,
but have poor rejection of noise and crosstalk (and generator whine is
noise).
