Can't hurt. I have the kit that replaced both ends, one end adds a heat sink, and gives 'handles' that help protect the knobs and display from a fall, etc. Then the plastic cover that snaps into the handles. Works well.

I run FT8 and Winlink VARA (which if you are sending a message has an even longer transmit cycle than FT8 on weak signals) and it seems to do OK.

Keep it out of the sun, that helps, too.
