First be sure the recorded messages are at the correct level. Put the K4 into TEST mode and play a message. Does the ALC meter behave as it does with live voice? If so, then you're good to go.
Next, Hold the XMTR knob, and notice the LCD display next to it changes to MON LEVEL. Adjust the knob until the level is to your liking. Hold the knob again to switch back to the normal MIC and PWR controls.
