Glenn,

The K2 can use many different microphones.  At the time the KSB2 was created, Elecraft did not have a microphone available, so a microphone configuration header was provided so it could be configured for many different microphones.  The header is located on the rear of the Front Panel board.
See the KSB2 instructions for plugging information.

Most any Kenwood, Yaesu, Icom, Radio Shack, and a few other microphones as well as the Elecraft MH4  can be used. For those mics that use an electret mic element, a bias resistor must be used (do not use that bias with a dynamic element microphone). You just have to know how the Microphone Configuration header is plugged to determine which microphone will work, or replug that header for whichever microphone you choose.
