I'm struggling to resolve a frequency error of nearly 7 kHz on my
newly constructed K2, s/n 8115. I'm using my K4 as a frequency
reference -- it is accurate to within a few Hz of WWV.
I found a document called "Adjusting C22 to put the K2 on Frequency"
in the Builders Resources section on the Elecraft web site. It states
that CAL PLL must be run on *each band*, but when I attempt to do so
on any band other than 40m, I get an INFO 232 error. Is the document
wrong?
So far, I've tried these two methods of adjusting C22, using CAL FCTR.
These are the first two methods shown on page 63 of the K2 manual:
1) "Sniffing" around TP3 with my K4 and tuning the detected signal via
the panadapter, noting the frequency shown on the K4 and adjusting C22
until the K2 displays the same frequency.
2) Tuning my K4 to exactly 4.000 MHz, then "sniffing" the 4 MHz
crystal on the K2 with the K4 and adjusting C22 until the detected
signal is exactly centered in the K4 panadapter.
In each instance, I ran CAL PLL on 40m immediately thereafter, and
then CAL FIL, but the huge frequency error persists.
I should mention that I have the KSB2 installed and am using the OP1
filter, which I used Spectrogram to align.
Suggestions?
