Hi Steve;
In addition to re-seating the TMP cables up front, loosen the one bolt for the KREF3 board and rock it to see if that is a problem. (do NOT take the bolt out as there is a little split washer as a spacer between the KREF3 and the sheet metal). **I have been replacing the KREF3 pins with gold on ALL K3 and K3S radios when in for service. If they oxidize, you can have intermittent problems (yes, even the S needs these changed), rocking it can temporarily clear the issue.

If you have the newer KSYN3A synthesizer(s), and if you have an issue with a TMP cable or something on the KREF3, the KSYN3A will go out of lock and require a power cycle to clear (assuming the intermittent is cleared). You can also tap DISP and rotate to "SYN3 1 OK" and see if it says "SYN 1 xxx" where xxx is an error. OR if it says "PLL1 x.x" then it is out of lock and needs power cycle. I suggest taking screws out of the top-cover, then when there is an issue you can; 1. See if the green LED on top of the KSYN3A is steady (normal) or blinking (out of lock). Or when there is NOT an issue, you can wiggle things and see if it goes out of lock.
