There's nothing to look for. All you're doing by increasing the value of R14
is increasing the amount of audio from the mic reaching the audio (speech
compressor) chip.

It has the same effect as screaming into your mic, without all the noise or
getting yourself hoarse <G>.

Now, there is a *different* mod that apparently can have bad side effects by
over-driving the balanced modulator at the output of the audio chip. That
was to swap resistor R14 and R2. R2 is a 5.6 k resistor in the audio line
between the speech compressor and the balanced modulator. Replacing it with
the 1K from R14 helped increase the gain even more by increasing the drive
to the balanced modulator. However, it was suggested that doing so might
over-drive the balanced modulator.

As an experiment, I'm going to try the KSB2 R14 mod (change value to
something 5k to 10k).

I have a couple of other irons in the fire that I will look at as well, but
this one was quick and I had the parts.

What negative effects should I watch for? I have a 100Mhz scope... anything

I should be looking at with that?
