I am not sure of the current situation, but just a couple of years or so ago, much 'third world' maritime traffic was still CW as it was cheap and the equipment easily repaired etc. I doubt that has changed much.

We can all bemoan the fate of Morse code on the amateur bands but as long as at least two of us can still read code, then there will always be someone out there to work :-)
