Remember that the K3 is designed to be built and options added by even inexperienced builders. Each Option manual assumes that installing it is the FIRST time that Ham has ever opened the lid of a rig. Elecraft takes seriously the idea of promoting "Hands-on Ham Radio" not just for solder jocks, but for everyone who wants some first-hand experience with the covers off.
So we were very careful about including a full set of warnings as well as detailed, fully-illustrated procedure and other minutiae such as exactly what tools to have on hand. What's obvious to many of us can be mysterious and intimidating to others. Elecraft wants them to "take the plunge"!
