Sorry for the bandwidth, but I couldn't resist.....

Few comment posted here are focusing on the "importance" aspect of
having what was shipped actually delivered. I have had terrible luck
with USPS. If I care at all that what I am ordering or shipping out
actually get there, I don't care about saving a few bucks. Frankly,
it just isn't worth the aggrevation.

Recently, my daughter at the Univ of Chicago used USPS to send us (in
NJ) her signed tax forms along with U of C verification that she was
actually a student there (for financial aid, etc). We never got it.
This happens all the time. My wife previously said, "FedEx is too
expensive."

Recently, my wife went to mail something of value via USPS and
requested insurance. Never mind the cost of the insurance, the Postal
Agent told her that simply insuring it is worthless unless she has a
receipt or invoice. Well, the item was old (and valuable) and there
was no receipt or invoice. So she did not mail it USPS.

Not that many years ago, I mailed out (USPS) some important papers. I
used certified mail with proof of receipt. They never got there.
They still haven't gotten there and the USPS basically says, "So what,
it must be lost."

One year (I think 2 or 3 years ago), we did not get our IRS refund.
Luckily, it took less than a month to have it reissued and the second
time USPS worked (I got lucky). And no, nobody stole it (IRS verifies
that it was wasn't cashed first).

I could go on and on.

So, whenever I have something that I really, really, really want to be
delivered, I will use UPS or FedEx (mostly FedEx). It's just not
worth saving a few bux on shipping versus the agony of non-delivery
and then the added agony of trying to get any follow up action. With
the other guys (UPS, DHL, FedEx), if you insure it and it is lost, you
get your money pronto....and so far, for me, with no questions asked.
