George,

I don't believe any data that can be trusted has been generated. About all I have heard is reports like yours. Since the DSP controls the width and quality of the transmitted signal much more than the IF filter, I would believe that there is little to no difference at all in the TX signal. It is difficult to judge differences in the filters from an on-the-air signal unless the same person transmitting has 2 K3s sitting right next to each other and uses the same microphone and TX EQ settings while you evaluate for any differences in the filters - there are just too many other variables involved including propagation variances from 2 different locations.

Of course, if you are trying to justify a 2.8 filter for your K3 rather than the 2.7, then by all means, order the 2.8 if you don't mind spending the extra $$$ :-) .

Has anyone done a critical comparison of the 2.7 vs 2.8 as to the quality of transmitted audio?? I participate in a 75 m net which has several K3 owners, and it seems to my somewhat defective ears the 2.8/ 8 pole filter sounds a bit better and is easier to EQ than the 2.7/ 5 pole filter. Comments would be welcome. thanks, George, n4ym
