Hi Jim I ran my K3/10 on battery for FD. I used a bigger battery though, 20AH. The receiver draws more current than my K2, so I figured a bigger battery would keep me out of trouble during the weekend. You will have around 900mA drain in receive, and 2-3 amps in transmit.
You could work that out to ampere-minutes on your fingers and toes, and see if the 5A gell-cell will handle things. Remember the K3 wants to see at least 11 volts from the battery, though. If you have a solar cell you can hang on the battery to stretch it some, that would certainly help. It sounds like the van battery would be your better bet, though, as it has the capacity to run you for several hours and still be able to start the motor again. Good luck and 73 Bob N6WG ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Miller" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <Elecraft@mailman.qth.net> Sent: Monday, August 18, 2008 7:40 PM Subject: [Elecraft] K3/10 on Battery? > I've got a situation where I might need to operate my K3/10 on a battery. > > Since it's a one time (likely) deal I don't really want to drop a wad on > this. > > I've got a 5ah gel cell that I could use.
