I tried using this option during Field Day last year. It
worked fine except for one problem. In a contest the
operator frequently switches between "run" and "search &
pounce" modes. In search & pounce, you want the rit off, so
you always call on the other station's frequency. In cq
mode, you want rit on, so you can tune in off-frequency
callers. If you switch to run mode, and forget to turn on
rit, when the first off-frequency caller shows up, you will
reach for the rit knob, and then immediately tune the main
vfo way off your run frequency! Your head will be spinning,
wondering what just happened.

I use the "coarse" button now for large qsy's. I also have
quick memories M1, M2, and M3 set for cw, ssb, and rtty
frequencies/setups on each band. Actually, that's the method
I use most.
