I'd go into  WINDOWS device manager.
start; right mouse click on my computer;  that will get you to where 
you can click on "manage"; then device manager... then "ports"
You will then see all the com ports....
    one of them might be a modem ,
but one will suggest a USB connection   like prolific USB.....
  That is the one you want.

Also your COM4 might be in use... because the usb is hooked to it .,..
I would try it anyway,,,,   that is where my usb dongle appears..
