Hi Phil,

One of the things that makes getting the modulation up to snuff is to view the 
output on a modulation monitor.  I use an old Kenwood SM220 in the trap 
position which allows me to adjust mike gain, carrier drive, ALC, etc until it 
looks good into a dummy load.  I do this on all voice modes.  It helps alot and 
makes it easy to see under or over modulation.  A thought.

My K3 has wonderful audio on SSB.  Tried AM for the first time this morning
and had lots of carrier but only 30% modulated.  Before I start playing,
