I kept my old 756Pro when I upgraded to a K3, and I've done exactly that. It works, of course, but there is no comparison in performance to what you would get from an LP-Pan or even a Softrock. The 756Pro spectrum display is interesting to look at, but the resolution is really poor for anything useful.

An expensive panadapter - yes. Just make sure the Icom never transmits or the K3 will be history. I guess this has been done with K2, etc. I have an IC7600 but have never tried it yet.
