George,
I have just completed a K2 build including SSB, Noise Blanker, 160 and DSP options. The 100W PA is work in progress. It is a fantastic kit and has gone together without any problems. There is very little room for any confusion when building it. I suggest you take your time with the build and enjoy it. The finished radio compares very well with my K3 and I actually prefer the K2's noise reduction. A few detailed comments are as follows :- A number of the supplied part numbers do not tally with either the parts list or the build instructions. However, it is not too difficult to figure out what's what. In particular on the K2 Control Board Parts List Part Appendix A description Supplied RP5 770103471 L103C471 T48 RP1 10A3392G CTSK0617770103392P RP6 10A3512G CTSK0617770103512P RP7 77083333 CTSK073677083333P RP3 770103473 CTSK0743770103473P RP2, RP4 08A3823G CTSK082177083823P U1 SA602AN SA612AN Support at Elecraft failed to respond to my request for confirmation on these parts but since everything works I can only assume that my assumptions were correct. I believe there are some typos in the RF Board Parts List (see page 1) which are currently uncorrected in the latest Errata. Six capacitor designators are not listed under "Monolithic Cap 102" (C1, C2, C9, C17, C26 & C27) and five under "Monolithic Cap 103" (C61, C181, C183, C184 & C186). I found it useful to tick off the designators as I used each part as a means of ensuring that the right variety of component was being used. With hindsight I think this was probably unnecessary. Again, disappointingly, Elecraft have chosen not to respond to my query on this. Access to a good frequency counter and an oscilloscope made easy work of the 4 MHz Oscillator Calibration (p 63) and the Transmitter / Receiver alignment (p78) and I would recommend their use. I received a sheet entitled "K2 12M/10M BPF Mod" with my kit (together with associated parts). I was only after I had removed the first component to be changed that I realised that the mods were unnecessary. They were already incorporated on my board. Have fun and if you have any further question feel free to drop me an email.
