Normal room noise? This is probably what masks fan noise for a lot of people.
In my house, loud noises are the dust particles crashing into and settling on surfaces. I have thrown away analog quartz clocks because the ticking was too loud. And yes the motor noise in the DVD and VCR players bother me even when watching a movie at a good volume.
